​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​FPA provides two awards to members of the financial planning community: The P. Kemp Fain, Jr., Award and the Heart of Financial Planning Award. Both awards recognize outstanding achievements in the profession, and are based on criteria specific to each award.

P. Kemp Fain, Jr., Award

Named for P. Kemp Fain, Jr., this award is the pinnacle of recognition in the financial planning profession, honoring one exceptional individual who has made outstanding contributions to the financial planning profession. Fain was a pioneer in the financial planning profession, blazing trails in professional associations, the CFP® certification, and the profession at large.  In keeping with Fain's example, nominees for the award are individuals who have made significant contributions to the financial planning profession in the areas of service to society, academia, government and professional activities.  The recipient is recognized at FPA's Annual Conference.

In keeping with Fain's example, nominees for the award are professionals also exemplify the FPA's Core Values​ of integrity, competence, relationships, and stewardship.

Heart of Financial Planning Award


This award recognizes individuals who demonstrate commitment and passion in doing extraordinary work to contribute or give back to the financial planning community and/or the public. Notable individuals, organizations/firms, or groups working in the areas of FPA member education, FPA chapter support, financial literacy, professional innovation, community education, and other service-focused endeavors are excellent candidates for the award. This is among the highest honor awarded to members of the FPA community involved with service. The recipient(s) are recognized at FPA's Annual Conference.​

The Financial Planning Association® (FPA®) is at the heart of financial planning connecting those who deliver, support and need financial planning. Recipients embody the heart of financial planning and represent FPA's Core Values of integrity, competence, relationships and stewardship.

Nominate a colleague now!

FPA will soon be seeking nominations for the 2018 Heart of Financial Planning Awards that will be presented at FPA Annual Conference 2018. The deadline for nominations is June 1, 2018. Nominations should be completed using the Nomination Form​, using supporting letters or other documentation as needed. Be sure to include the following information:

  • Your affiliation with the nominee (FPA member, chapter leader, employee, associated professional, etc.).

  • Clarify the nominee's excellence in demonstrating FPA's Core Values; and the nominee's extraordinary service and stewardship to contribute or give back to the financial planning community and/or the public.

  • Explain why your nominee should be considered for this award? Focus on key points and provide specific examples to support your recommendation. If you are recommending a company or organization, focus on the contributions of the company or organization.
