DENVER (November 15, 2017) - The Financial Planning Association® (FPA®), the country's largest professional membership association for Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) professionals, issued the following statement today in response to the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) announcement on the proposed Standards of Professional Conduct and their next steps:

"The Financial Planning Association and our FPA Member Advocacy Council (MAC) spent considerable time reviewing CFP Board's proposed changes to the Standards of Professional Conduct and employed a robust feedback plan to solicit the comments and questions from CFP® professional members of our association. We heard loud and clear that FPA members wanted more clarity on what was being proposed and an additional opportunity to provide input once the clarity was provided."

"We are pleased CFP Board will make available an updated set of proposed standards and other materials before the end of 2017 and applaud their plan to open a second comment period early in the new year so they can continue to collect input from CFP® professionals. Through the MAC, FPA will solicit feedback from FPA members so they have an opportunity to provide input on CFP Board's proposed standards with the goal of ensuring the collective voice of all CFP® professionals is heard by CFP Board."
