PridePlanners and the Association of African American Financial Advisors preconference events to help financial planners address issues of importance to diverse communities

DENVER – Diversity and the desire to make the financial planning profession more inclusive has been a staple of Financial Planning Association® (FPA®) programming for years. At the FPA Annual Conference – BE Boston 2015, Sept. 26-28 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, diversity will take center stage with the addition of special preconference events in partnership with PridePlanners and the Association of African American Financial Advisors (Quad-A).

The FPA Annual Conference – BE Boston 2015 is the signature event within the financial planning profession and the largest gathering of Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) professionals that covers the latest advanced financial planning and practice management issues. The preconferences with PridePlanners and Quad-A will allow attendees to engage in dialogue, before and during the FPA Annual Conference, and learn about the key issues impacting planners and clients of diverse backgrounds.

"FPA has a proud history of being an inclusive organization for financial planners. Through our Diversity Initiative and various scholarship programs to bring professionals of different backgrounds together, FPA has been a leader in opening the profession up to people no matter their race, religion, sexual orientation or business model," said FPA Executive Director/CEO Lauren M. Schadle, CAE. "PridePlanners and Quad-A are terrific partners for FPA as we work together to educate planners on the issues of importance to an increasingly diverse marketplace."

The PridePlanners preconference, to be held Sept. 25 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, is focused on the theme of Changing Landscapes: Financial Planning for LGBT Clients and/or Unmarried Couples. The preconference will feature a special welcome by Massachusetts Senate President Stan Rosenberg and will include sessions on:

  • Planning for Unmarried Couples

  • Socially Responsible Investing

  • Financial Planning for HIV Positive and Chronic Care Illnesses

  • Tax Planning Opportunities for Unmarried and Gay/Lesbian Clients

  • Estate Planning Opportunities and Concerns

  • Marketing to LGBT Clients

  • Elder Care

"FPA has long championed the cause of diversity and that's never been more evident than with FPA's partnership with PridePlanners," says Stuart Armstrong, CFP®, a board member for both FPA and PridePlanners. "We have put together an agenda that will provide tremendous value to planners focusing on LGBT and unmarried couples in this transformative time in planning for same-sex couples."

The Quad-A preconference, to be held Sept. 24-25 also at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, is focused on the theme of Building a New Vision of Success. The agenda will focus on relevant topics that are critical for success in a changing demographic, economic and regulatory landscape.

"The financial planning profession continues to grapple with the changing demographics of the U.S. population and its impact on a firm's profitability and viability," says Lazetta Rainey Braxton, CFP®, president of the Association of African American Financial Advisors (Quad-A). "Our preconference will assist financial planners with building sustainable businesses that engage and embrace a diverse marketplace by leveraging the innovative perspectives of diverse financial experts."
