​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Practitioners and thought-leaders to explore the art and science of financial planning

DENVER (February 7, 2018) – Bringing together the top influencers in financial planning, FPA Retreat 2018 promises to be an impactful event, cultivating ideas arou​nd the art ​and science of financial planning in a relaxing and thought-provoking environment. The event, to be held Apr. 23-26 at The Wigwam outside of Phoenix, Ariz., will encourage financial planners to forge deep relationships and engage in meaningful ​conversations that will help shape the futur​e of the financial planning profession.

Celebrating 45 years of recognizing the CFP®​certification, this year's event will focus on the Past, Present and Future – remembering lessons from the past, while building on the opportunities of today to advance the profession of tomorrow.

Top-notch learning opportunities will be an integral part of FPA Retreat 2018. Featured speakers, breakout presenters and experts in the field will deliver best practices on planning techniques and how to apply them. New, innovative research on the underlying obstacles of succession planning, co-designed and produced by FPA and Janus Henderson, will also be unveiled.

"Retreat is a deeply relational experience and is intentionally designed to be an incubator for knowledge sharing, ideation and the fostering of perspectives focused on the art and science of financial planning," note 2018 FPA Retreat Task Force Co-Chairs Kirsten Ismail, CFP® and Scott Kahan, CFP®. "Retreat attendees are at the forefront of discussions and conversations that truly shape and advance the growth of the financial planning profession."

A series of general sessions delivered by respected speakers will demonstrate new concepts designed to help attendees grow their knowledge and skillset and become better financial planning professionals. Keynote speakers include:

George Kinder, CFP®, RLP on Life Planning, Mindfulness and a Golden Civilization. Kinder, a practicing financial planner and tax adviser, is also internationally recognized as the "father" of the Life Planning movement. His soon to be released book, A Golden Civilization, introduces new approaches to economics, leadership, media and democracy, and the role financial planners will play.

Ron Galloway on Age Invaders: How Increasing Lifespans Will Impact the Role of the Financial Planner. Galloway is a researcher, film director and author focusing on business topics related to disruptive technologies and their impact on the future.

Stephanie Kelton, Ph.D. on Democratizing Finance. Dr. Kelton is considered one of the foremost policy experts in the United States, having served as both the former Chief Economist on the U.S. Senate Budget Committee and economic adviser to Senator Bernie Sanders during the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign.


With approximately 350 attendees expected to participate, this intimate gathering will foster an encouraging environment to share and generate new ideas that will enhance the practices of financial planners, and elevate the profession.​​
