Life Planning preconference to answer this important question for financial planners and their clients at FPA Experience 2013

DENVER – The Financial Planning Association® (FPA®) today announced its partnership with the Kinder Institute of Life Planning to host preconference sessions in advance of FPA Experience 2013, the annual conference for the financial planning community, to be held Oct. 19-21 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. The Oct. 17-18 preconference will explore how financial planners can help clients identify essential values and aspirations then develop plans to bring those aspirations to life.

The preconference, to be presented by Master Trainer Mary Zimmerman, CFP®, RLP®, will cover:

  • How to use Kinder Institute’s famous “Three Questions” methodology to sensitively and professionally connect to clients’ deeper goals – even those that may be closely guarded
  • How to integrate life goals with financial realities
  • How unexamined beliefs about money disrupt the financial planning process – and what to do about it

“The financial planning profession is not driven by numbers only, but by those things that cannot be easily quantified,” said FPA Executive Director and CEO Lauren M. Schadle, CAE. “To help people achieve their goals, financial planners must go ‘beyond the numbers’ to understand what motivates clients and what they hope to achieve in life."

The preconference will run Thursday, Oct. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

“FPA has been huge in their support of, and contribution to, the Life Planning Movement. Without FPA's early sponsorship of the Seven Stages of Money Maturity Workshops who knows where the Life Planning movement would be today,” said George Kinder, founder of the Kinder Institute of Life Planning. “Our workshops have brought at least 500 FPA members into the field and Master Trainer Mary Zimmerman has been a major part of that success. Those attending the preconference are lucky to have access to her for those two days of sessions.”
