Young Financial Planners to Gather, Learn How to Lead Today and Prosper Tomorrow
FPA NexGen Gathering designed to encourage open dialogue and learning between attendees
DENVER – On June 10-12 the next generation of financial planning professionals will gather at the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, TX for the 11th Annual
FPA NexGen Gathering
. The event, which has doubled in attendance in recent years, is designed to allow attendees to engage in dialogue on issues of importance to young financial planners and those seeking to make financial planning their vocation.
Upwards of 100 attendees are expected with the typical attendee being in the 21 to 36 age range. While conversation usually centers on early to mid-career issues, the event isn't built around a structured agenda featuring polished presentations. The schedule is flexible to allow attendees to come together around common issues and themes that are voiced during the event.
"NexGen Gathering is a conference like no other. The conference agenda is designed with the attendees in mind allowing for immediate impact and intentional conversations," says 2016 FPA NexGen President Rianka R. Dorsainvil, CFP
. "This year we selected the theme of 'Lead Today' because we want participants to acknowledge that they are making a huge impact in the profession today and to set the stage for enlightening conversations about challenges and opportunities facing planners tomorrow."
New this year is a pre-conference for FPA Chapter NexGen Directors to supply these volunteer leaders with the knowledge and resources they need to successfully lead and implement a NexGen initiative locally. NexGen Gathering will also include several pre-conference presentations for attendees that will focus on topics that apply to financial planning professionals of all ages and career levels.
Two seasoned Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP
) professionals will lead discussions and encourage participation as facilitators. The facilitators are:
Marty Kurtz, CFP
– Kurtz is CEO of The Planning Center, Inc. in Moline, Ill. and served as 2011 President of FPA. A respected leader in the profession, he has served on the CFP Board of Professional Review (disciplinary and ethics board) and was chair of CFP Board in 2005.
Edward W. Kramer II, CFP
– Kramer is a principal at Abacus Planning Group, Inc. in Columbia, S.C. and, besides working with clients, he is responsible for creating Abacus Planning Group's culture of Business Development.
"FPA NexGen is a vibrant, growing community of young financial planning professionals who want to find their way in, and help lead, the profession," says 2016 FPA President Pamela Sandy, CFP
. "FPA NexGen Gathering is such a unique event for young planners because it opens those vital lines of communication between attendees, but also becomes a catalyst in creating that critical support network all planners crave."
Starting Mar. 1, interested attendees can apply for scholarships that cover FPA NexGen Gathering registration fees, onsite lodging, conference meals and reasonable travel expenses. Those interested in securing a scholarship can learn about eligibility requirements and apply on the
. Scholarship winners will be announced by May 16.
The fee to attend FPA NexGen Gathering is intentionally kept low to make attending affordable for young professionals and students. This year the early bird price for FPA members is $299 and the fee covers registration, room and board. The early bird price will expire Mar. 4.
