In 2006, FPA and AARP joined forces to help educate individuals 50 and over on the importance of financial planning. FPA appeared in AARP's first-ever financial planning insert in AARP Bulletin and Segunda Jeventud's magazines June 2006 issues. The special section included money makeovers that paired AARP members with FPA members for general financial planning advice. Additionally, FPA's president, president-elect and chair provided answers to many readers' questions. AARP Bulletin reaches 22 million AARP members and Segunda Jeventud reaches 600,000 Spanish-speaking AARP members.
FPA was also selected as one of only two organizations that AARP recommends to their state offices for speaking engagements. AARP cited FPA's level of professionalism, organizational commitment to volunteerism and trust as the key reasons FPA was chosen.
FPA and AARP worked together to create A Financial Professional's Guide to Working with Older Clients. This simple, accessible, straight-forward guide helps financial planning professionals communicate and work with retirees. The guide is promoted and distributed to FPA members, the financial services industry, financial associations and financial planning professionals. A complimentary webinar was also provided via FPA's Virtual Learning Center.
FPA and Aetna joined forces in late 2004 to create the public education campaign, Plan for Your Health. The campaign gives consumers tools and information they need to make smart health benefit decisions that help them protect their financial future. Learn more about the campaign.
In 2008, FPA and ALS Association joined forces to help individuals and their families sort through the complicated financial issues that arise when one is diagnosed with a devastating disease, such as ALS. ALS hosted a presentation by FPA entitled, "Financial Planning for Life with ALS." The seminar provided tips for insurance, budgeting, investments, taxes, estate planning, government and community resources, and more.
American College of Emergency Physicians
FPA and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) joined forces to help emergency physicians learn the value of financial planning. Through ACEP, FPA educates practitioners on a variety of personal financial planning topics by providing guest speakers for ACEP conferences, educational seminars and literature. Additionally, a private label FPA PlannerSearch® program is integrated on the ACEP website in an effort to connect physicians with FPA’s CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) professionals. ACEP members are able to easily search for CFPs from FPA in their area by visiting the ACEP website.
American Institute of Architects
In 2008, FPA and the American Institute of Architects joined forces to help architects financially plan during turbulent market conditions. The American Institute of Architects conducted a Q&A interview with an FPA member. The interview was recorded and posted as an audiocast on the American Institute of Architects member website.
American Pharmacists Association
FPA and the American Pharmacists Association™ (APhA) have teamed up to help new pharmacy practitioners discover the value of financial planning. Through APhA, FPA educates practitioners on a variety of personal financial planning topics by providing guest speakers for APhA conferences, educational seminars and literature. Additionally, a private label FPA PlannerSearch® program is integrated on the APhA website in an effort to connect new practitioners with FPA CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) professionals. APhA practitioners are able to easily search for CFPs from FPA by visiting the APhA website.
Boomer-Living.com, a subsidiary of The National Center for Baby Boomers, Inc., is a unique and innovative internet resource whose goal is to meet the needs and interests of active and creative Baby Boomers. Boomer-Living.com has integrated a private label FPA PlannerSearch® program on its site to help visitors find CERTFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals (CFP®) from FPA.
Through Boomer-Living.com, FPA provided four spokespeople to be Boomer-Living Directors and/or Boom J Experts. Boomer-Living.com uses FPA spokespeople to offer financial planning educational content related to baby boomer's unique circumstances. Boomer-Living is the content source for BoomJ.com, a social network for Baby Boomers. Boomer-Living.com will be the educational arm for the two websites.
FPA and Ceridian, a leading information services company in human resources, retail and transportation markets, have joined forces to deliver educational seminars to companies nationwide. Ceridian refers its clients to FPA PlannerSearch® when asked about financial planning services. FPA also distributes educational materials on personal finance to attendees at FPA events.
ComPsych is a pioneer and worldwide leader in Guidance Resources, including integrated employee assistance programs (EAPs), behavioral health, work-life, wellness and crisis intervention services. Through ComPsych, FPA delivers educational seminars to companies nationwide. Additionally, a private label FPA PlannerSearch® program is integrated on the ComPsych website in an effort to connect employees with FPA’s CERTFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) professionals. ComPsych clients are able to easily search for CFPs from FPA by visiting the ComPsych website.
Emeritus Senior Living
Emeritus Senior Living has integrated a private label FPA PlannerSearch® program on its website to help visitors find a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) professional from FPA. In addition, Emeritus Senior Living provides its residents with Financial Planning Perspectives articles to keep seniors informed on time sensitive personal finance issues. FPA also works with Emeritus Senior Living to provide objective, unbiased financial information, covering issues ranging from retirement planning, budgeting and how to choose a CFP.
Investor Protection Trust
FPA teamed up with Investor Protection Trust, Investor Protection Institute, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine, National Adult Protective Services Association, and health care professionals to provide a day of free advice and guidance on how Americans can protect themselves and loved ones against investment swindles and financial abuse, with a special focus on the elderly. FPA members provided answers to general financial planning questions, helped callers identify financial professionals who put their interests first; educated callers on how to protect themselves and their loved ones from financial fraud; and encouraged callers to start a conversation about money with their adult children or older parents to prevent elder investment fraud and financial exploitation. JA Worldwide® (Junior Achievement)
FPA recognizes the overwhelming need to educate young people about financial responsibility and we're excited to announce that JA Worldwide® (Junior Achievement) and FPA have partnered to improve financial education for America's youth. By collaborating with Junior Achievement, FPA hopes to educate America's youth on the benefits of financial planning while at the same time support Junior Achievement's core purpose to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.
FPA, working in partnership with Junior Achievement, provides the bridge between financial literacy and education by teaching kids the financial planning process, their role in the economy, and the importance of education to their success in life. FPA and JA Worldwide's national alliance launched during FPA's Financial Planning Week®, October 1-7, 2007. The national alliance asks for FPA chapters to work with their local Junior Achievement area offices to make valuable programs available to children around the country by providing an essential educational resource–volunteers. Junior Achievement will provide the training, program materials and support to match FPA volunteers with schools requesting Junior Achievement programs.
FPA and Jump$tart have collaborated to help educators make valuable programs available to children around the country by providing essential resources including volunteers and literature. Jump$tart features FPA in its newsletters and annual reports to build awareness of the financial planning resources offered by FPA.
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
FPA and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) are working together to provide financial education and services to the underserved and those most in need. NAACP, in conjunction with several partner organizations, launched the Financial Freedom Center in 2011 to influence change in the banking industry, prevent unfair mortgage lending practices, protect the community against predatory mortgage lending practices, improve fair credit access, and promote sustainable homeownership, financial education and wealth building strategies in disadvantaged communities. FPA provides volunteers to assist with one-on-one financial planning counseling sessions and personal finance educational seminars at Financial Freedom Center events.
National Association of Women Business Owners
FPA and the National Association of Women Business Owners® (NAWBO®) combined efforts to incorporate financial education into programs for NAWBO's members. FPA provided guest speakers for NAWBO conferences and events and NAWBO received a variety of personal finance brochures to distribute to its membership. In addition, a private label FPA PlannerSearch® program is integrated on the NAWBO website in an effort to connect women business owners with CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) professionals from FPA. FPA provided volunteers for "Ask a Planner" sessions and for personal finance educational seminars at NAWBO annual conferences; FPA and NAWBO have advertised in reciprocal publications; and have conducted educational seminars for both FPA and NAWBO members via FPA's Virtual Learning Center and teleconferences.
During FPA's Financial Planning Week®, October 2-8, 2006, NAWBO President Carol E. Kuc, CMP, and Executive Director Erin M. Fuller, CAE, presented an interactive online presentation addressing the unique issues encountered by women business owners. The seminar, Unique Issues Encountered by Women Entrepreneurs, was offered to members of both organizations and to the public at a discounted rate through FPA's Virtual Learning Center.
National Business Association
The National Business Association (NBA) is a not for profit association, specifically designed and actively managed to assist the Self-Employed and Small Business Community in achieving their professional goals. The NBA uses its group buying power to provide its members with support programs, cost and time saving products, services and valuable small business resource materials. NBA has integrated a private label FPA PlannerSearch® program on its site to help business owners connect with FPA’s CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) professionals. NBA also features FPA’s personal finance articles on its website to help its members build and maintain successful businesses.
National Endowment for Financial Education
FPA and the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) collaborated on a website, Life Events & Financial Decisions. The online program was created by NEFE and explores financial considerations at various life stages, including becoming established, marriage, buying a home, military service and crises/emergencies.
FPA, NEFE and the National worked together to create Overcoming the Credit Barrier: Clearing the Way to Your Financial Goals. This brochure offers a step-by-step approach to help individuals improve their credit record.
In 2012 and 2013, FPA and NEFE teamed up to offer the Financial Four, where CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals from FPA and consumers weigh in on what Americans should be thinking about as their top financial priorities. A bracket of 32 concepts helps users identify the financial areas most imporrtant to them.
National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization
FPA and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) have teamed up to help individuals financially prepare for end-of-life care and to improve the quality of life for themselves and loved ones. Through NHPCO, FPA educated families on a variety of personal financial planning topics including estate planning, advanced directives, insurance benefits and more. FPA provided guest speakers to deliver personal finance presentations at NHPCO hospices, delivered an e-learning seminar titled, "Financial Considerations with Losing a Loved One," and provided literature on personal finance topics. Additionally, a private label FPA PlannerSearch® program is integrated on the NHPCO Caring Connections website in an effort to connect individuals and their families with CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNING™ professionals from FPA.
FPA and SallieMae conducted seminars in schools and graduate programs across the country, educating soon-to-be law and medical school graduates and graduate school students on student loan repayment and financial planning.
Student Financial Aid Services, Inc.
FPA and Student Financial Aid Services, Inc. (SFAS) teamed up to offer the +studentaid.com College Cost & Planning Report™ at a special discounted price. The College Cost & Planning Report™ armed students and their families with a detailed and accurate understanding of how much financial aid they would receive to help pay for college – years before the student applied.
U.S. Departments of Labor or Commerce
FPA works with the Colorado Department of Labor and the North Carolina Department of Commerce to deliver personal finance educational presentations and literature for soon to be displaced workers. Seminars provide financial planning information to help workers prepare for unemployment and outline retirement options for eligible employees.
U.S. Department of Labor, Women's Bureau
The U. S. Department of Labor Women's Bureau, established by Congress in 1920, is the only federal agency mandated to represent the needs of wage-earning women in the public policy process. Wi$eUp is a financial education demonstration project targeted to Generation X and Y women. The centerpiece of the program is an eight-module curriculum offered online, as well as in a classroom setting, in educational institutions and other organizations in eight Women's Bureau regions. In the online program, the curriculum is complemented by an "Ask an Expert" feature, which permits participants to send questions by e-mail to volunteers with financial expertise. Another feature available to participants in both the online and classroom-based versions is a series of bi-monthly one-hour teleconference calls with featured speakers and a quest and answer session. Participants and experts (mentors) are recruited by local organizations who partner with the Women's Bureau.
FPA volunteers offer their expertise on various financial planning topics via Wi$eUp teleconference calls.
FPA and the U.S. Department of Labor, Women's Bureau also co-sponsored, "Wi$eUp: The Benefits of Creating a Financially Savvy Employee," on July 9, 2008 at the American Express Headquarters in New York, N.Y. The conference was open to public and encouraged American companies to provide free financial education to their employees and the community.
Wi$eUp also features FPA's Financial Planning Perspectives articles on the Wi$eUp website, under "NEWS & EVENTS". The U.S. Department of Labor, Women's Bureau also presented "Wi$eUp — The Financial Education Program for Generation X and Y" at FPA Anaheim 2009 annual conference.
VisaUSA Practical Money Skills for Life
VisaUSA Practical Money Skills for Life promotes FPA on their website and in syndicated newspaper columns they issue, which is carried in over 350 papers nationwide.
