  • Focuses on the client-centered nature of the financial planning engagement, building a trusted relationship with clients through heightened communication skills, and demonstrating a commitment to putting the interest of clients before their own.
  • Creates an interactive learning experience using three progressive case studies. Residents role play real life scenarios with clients and receive in-the-moment, individualized feedback from the experienced and prominent financial planners who serve as mentors.
  • Translates technical financial knowledge into a competency and wisdom for benefit of the client. This is the art of financial planning, a subtle but high-level skill that requires financial planners to fine tune their listening skills to craft a life plan that resonates and reflects the clients’ true vision, and articulates the
    path to get there.
  • Builds a community of passionate and new-to-the-professionals CFP® professionals
that support each other, and the development of the next generation of financial planners.

The Week at a Glance Photo_GroupLaughing.jpg

After the welcome and orientation session, residents are assigned to their teams and dive into the case-study work that is at the core of the program. As the week progresses, the teams study and unpack the financial and personal issues facing the clients in the case studies as they move through the clients’ lives towards retirement.

Starting with case study one, residents review clients’ facts and profiles, develop pertinent client questions, and collaborate to devise relevant case solutions and presentations. When not working in teams, residents role play with mentors to practice the client discovery and meeting process. They practice questioning techniques and visual presentation skills each day, and receive specific and robust feedback from mentors.

After advancing through three case studies, the teams show their hard-earned wisdom and confidence during the final day of the program by presenting a comprehensive financial plan to their clients. The program closes with a graduation ceremony where residents and mentors celebrate and reflect on the tremendous growth they experienced with their team and mentor throughout the week.

"I came over from Hawaii and run my own practice there.
My team was so great! I feel like we are a family.
I came here wanting to think like a financial planner.
Now I know I need to focus on having
the heart of a financial planner."
